Two wine lines: one produced with the traditional Sangiovese, Lanaiolo and Malvasia rossa varieties, typical of the Montescudaio region, and one which is more internationally-oriented, produced with Merlot and Cabernet.

The vineyards are planted in a traditional way with no mechanization system, so as to strengthen the relationship between manual skills, vines and the final product.

The new vineyards are set in a modern conception with approximately 7,500 vines per hectare

Fontemorsi organically grown grapes to achive quality wines in the Tuscan tradition of Sangiovese, Canaiolo and Malvasia rossa varieties, and the newly-introduced Merlot and Cabernet.

Bottled D.O.C. red wine and I.G.T. rosé wine.

Our wines are produced solely from grapes produced in our vineyards and certified as organic by ICEA, the Ethical and Environmental Certification Institute.
We maintain a number of 25-year old vines, producing high quality grapes. However, a major part of our vines are newly grown and developed by us.

Our choice of vines is made by experience gained from the existing plants as well as a close evaluation of our particular climatic environment. From this we determined our principle grape to be the Sangiovese.

The vines are planted with a density of more than 7,000 per hectare and bred using the Guyot technique. Due to the low production of each vine a significantly higher quality grape is produced.

It is interesting to note the coincidence of the term ‘guyot’ to also mean a flat topped mountain below the sea. In fact the hills on which the Fontemorsi winery stands were once submerged below the Mediterranean and are today covered in fossilized sea shells, hence our choice of label.

All vineyard operations are conducted manually or with low impact machinery. We employ specialist workers from the locality who, with considerable know-how and expertise of both grapes and olives, preserve the knowledge passed down through the generations.

Sangiovese, which is traditionally the local variety, is perfectly adapted to our environment and ensures high quality production. It is vinfied by itself or, depending on the label, with small quantities of Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon.

Together with our ambition to produce high quality wines Fontemorsi has, as its mission, to build a model of viticulture with very low environmental impact. We follow the programs of the Experimental Station for Sustainable Viticulture directed by Dr. Ruggero Mazzilli in collaboration with a number of the most important Italian research institutes.
After an experimental phase, which yielded good results, all the vineyards have been cultivated organically for years. The production process is certified by ICEA, the Ethical and Environmental Certification Institute. This approach is essential to render fully the soil characteristic and grape varieties we grow, as well as giving our wines the personality and territorial recognizability they deserve.

Current production is to approximately 60,000 bottles of red, white and rosé wines both D.O.C. and I.G.T. as well as some 3,000 kg of organic olive oil.
